This was my second year speaking at panels for San Francisco Writer’s Conference.
I love the venue and the high energy level of the attendees is infectious.
In 2022, I spoke on the following at SFWC:
- So You Want to Write Science Fiction (San Francisco Writers Conference, SF, CA) with Ken Bebelle, Kimberly Unger, SF Author and Jacob Weisman, editor of Tachyon
- Researching Non-Western Voice for Your Stories (SFWC) with Ken Bebelle
- NFTs for Authors (solo talk)
- Fiction Session: Your Cast of Characters (Amanda Traylor, Jordan Rosenfeld, Cara Black, Julia Vee)
This year I couldn’t cover as many topics because I coming back from Superstars Writing Seminars in Colorado Springs.
I was delighted to speak on two wonderful panels on:
- Crafting Reliable and Unreliable Narrators Kristen Tatroe, Jordan Rosenfeld, Martha Engber, Julia Vee
- Sensory Elements Your Story Needs That You’ve Never Used – Kristen Tate, Amanda Traylor, Cara Black, Julia Vee
I really enjoyed preparing for both of these, and one of the fun things I noticed about the Unreliable Narrators topic is many of the novels I found had been adapted to film. Something about the surprise twist or unexpected viewpoint makes the these stories uniquely compelling for audiences.
For the sensory writing panel, I discussed the use of metaphor to give enhance descriptive writing and give more insight into the character’s feelings and opinions.
