Hey, it’s a holiday that means a lot to me. Here are some people who served this nation and then went on to write kickass books. I think we say “Thank you for your service” and mean it, but there’s also one more thing you can do to show your appreciation, which is to see what these fine folks have gone on to do in their creative endeavors.

I’ll start with the audiobook since there is no question I am consuming a ton of great stories this way:
Terran Strike MarinesRichard Fox and Scott Moon – This audiobook is an outstanding use of your credit.

You get a double shot of story here and if you love space marines, then you will enjoy the gritty storytelling of retired Marine Richard Fox and his prolific co-author, Scott Moon.

Eye of Truth Lindsay Buroker served in the Army and now writes thrilling fantasy novels.  This latest series is sword and sorcery with the warmth and heart we have come to expect from this very prolific author.

Shadow Corps Justin Sloan came home after a devastating injury during his service in the Marines. He studied writing at Johns Hopkins and screenwriting at UCLA. In addition, he launched multiple podcasts and wrote non-fiction books such as Military Veterans in Creative Careers. Justin’s fiction continues to entertain many, with thrilling fight scenes and characters with depth.

Legacy Marines Jonathan Brazee – He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and served 30 years in the Marines as a commander of infantry, recon, MSSG, and air delivery units as well as in various staff billets. He served with the 3d CAG as the military liaison to USAID in Iraq in 2006 and retired as a colonel in 2009. He is a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the U. S. Naval Academy Alumni Association.  While overseas, he began writing military non-fiction.  Years later, he produced a number of fiction works, featuring the space marines we know and love. His work Weaponized Math featuring sniper Gracie Medicine Crow was nominated for a Nebula in 2017.

The Armored Saint Myke Cole – This Coastie also has a love of military history as seen in his recent non-fiction work, Legion versus Phalanx. This audiobook of The Armored Saint is really an impressive work. I enjoyed his earlier series but here, I feel like he took his writing to another level to give us this unlikely hero.
